No problen
No wonder students come into my College Level History courses with so little understanding of history. The level of wrong in this text is exceeded only by the level of misleading.
Examples of painful historical gaffs in the first few pages
P.7 -- Apparently early Amerindians got all their food from hunting, until they killed all the animals and had to learn to gather. "Deprived of their main source of food, hunters had to change their ways of life." And apparently, Ancient Native Americans also had cattle and pigs. "In many places, hunters became gatherers. Farmers also learned how to raise animals such as cattle, pigs and llamas."
P.8 "A Civilization is an advanced culture in which people have developed cities, science, and industries." Oh.. where to begin???
The section on Africa begins with "The Muslim Link in Trade"... but then immediately backs up nearly 4000 years to Ancient Egypt. So, let's not even try be chronological.
P.17 "Africa has a long history of trade, going back as far as 3100 BC, when the great civilization of Egypt arose."
"About AD 1000 trade centers began to appear in eastern Africa."
P. 15 -- First Mention of Europe "European beliefs and values were shaped by two religions of the ancient Middle East Judaism and Christianity." OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. Then, of course, we back up to Ancient Greece and Rome to talk about their influence, even though we've just told the students that European beliefs and values come from Judaism and Christianity.

This text book is very informative and interesting to read. The homework questions at the end of each section are really good at provoking the student to think critically about what he or she has read. Furthermore, the authors place notes on each page of the text that remind students to pay attention to vocabulary and particularly important points.
Ideal for high school freshmen that loose their book and neglect to tell you that they’ve done so for two months until their grades start to suffer.
