Way to go Dee! So I am one of those people who has basically only read Dee Henderson's new stuff and not the old, except for The Witness. I enjoyed Full Disclosure and the few that came after, and I couldn't understand why everyone was so cynical about Dee's writing in her new books. Now I understand! The Negotiator was way different than any Dee Henderson book I have read. It was literally exploding with action, suspense and of course, romance. Loved it! This is the story of Kate O'Malley, who is, you guessed it, a negotiator. She meets up with Dave from Danger in the Shadows in the opening scene and shows him how great she is at her job. There is so much that happens in this book and I loved it. Also love her family! This is a great start to the series and am anxious to read Marcus' story next!

Wow, this story grabs your attention from the start and pulls you right in! Kate O'Malley is a negotiator and she is SO good at her job! She thinks she's an only child but growing up in an orphanage she quickly became family with 6 other orphans and gave themselves the last name O'Malley. I LOOOOOOVED getting to know them and seeing how they look out for one another. Jennifer, the youngest, is the first of them to get engaged. However, the closeness they share with one another is admirable and wonderful to see.

I really admired Kate's strength and calmness in emergency situations and I absolutely loved how she meets FBI Agent Dave Richman, during a bank holdup, and how they immediately click. I only wish there had been more negotiating scenes for Kate within the story similar to that first one. It's so well written, Kate has my full respect from that moment on. The main conflict in the story is Kate's unbelief in Christ, but it was interesting how she wrestles with this unbelief. Between her kid sister's faith and Dave's prayers, it's only a matter of time before Kate realizes God does exist and despite her hard life, God has always been with her.

This is my second book by Dee Henderson and definitely my favorite one so far! What an awesome family the O'Malley's are and despite how different they are from one another, it was such a treat to watch them loving one another and protecting each other. I also have to say that Henderson writes clean police stories that have plenty of action but are also realistic and entertaining, what a great book!
As a writer/reviewer I'm always looking for good Christian writing. Some of those authors I'm late in finding. The Negotiator, book 1 of the O'Malley series is excellently written. You see 4 stars there, but make that 4.5 stars. The O'Malleys aren't your basic family. All orphans who found one another, and then after the eldest male comes of age, he adopts the others in the group. Although biologically they are from different families they are emotionally and psychologically bonded.

In The Negotiator, Kate O'Malley runs into a problem even she can't solve, although she's been trained as a psychologist to work with children suffering from stress. Still, the problem is overwhelming and she puts a call out to the other O'Malleys who come to aide her. But don't think this is just an action packed suspense. It's also a romance, but not just any romance. This romance is God putting people together for His good.

A side note is that writing my first mystery I wanted it to be realistic, so I used realistic language. I began to run into people who said a Christian novel shouldn't be written like that. Then I read Dee Henderson's O'Malley series and realized that I didn't have to have the profanity in my novel, so I rewrote it. I hope I have an affect like that on people. I hope Jesus shines through me as clearly as He does through her.
This was yet another phenomenal book by Dee Henderson about the journey to accepting Jesus, faith and all that comes with it despite uncertain and troubling times. Henderson has a gift for taking a horrible event that sends that main character on a trail of confusion and questions as they try to figure out life. At the same time, someone brings up their journey of faith and it seems impossible that main character will ever be able to accept Jesus.
In this book, Kate is a negotiator and soon after an attempted bank bombing, she witness a plane crash where over 200 people die. Her family surround her and try to help her deal with this, along with a new friend. All while searching for answers to why someone would blow up a plane, she reads the book of Luke as the only person who believes asks her to do so.
So many serious questions are raised and investigated while shifting through mounds of possible clues for the person responsible for the plane incident. Again, Henderson does an excellent job posing intelligent questions and answers in a way most would be able to understand. Henderson doesn't become preachy or pushy, just simply tries to guide.
That with all the twists and turns, the shocking revelations revealed, make this a wonderful book. It is paced just right; there really is never a dull moment and you can't wait to finish it. Then, you cannot wait to read the next in the series.
